Chinese for Liberal Arts belongs to the series “Specialized Chinese Textbooks for Foreigners Studying in China”, a collection especially designed for international students on pre-university programmes in China.

The underlying idea of this series is that students who are to study a degree in China should first study one semester of Chinese for Liberal Arts  to thus create a linguistic base and build up some knowledge before starting their degree.

This is a textbook for conversation and listening comprehension for people who are going to study literature, law, history, philosophy or any other Liberal Arts degrees. It is also useful for students of Chinese who wish to acquire vocabulary for these subjects. 

Chinese for Liberal Arts- Listening and Speaking Course is divided into 15 units which consist of exercises and vocabulary in Chinese translated into English. The exercises are very varied: connect the elements of two columns, fill in the blanks, reply to questions after listening to an audio file, complete sentences and any other kind of exercise that will make students speak. 

This is a learning resource suitable for intermediate level students who can read Chinese without pinyin. Only the work instructions for the exercises and some of the vocabulary are in English.

The audio files can be accessed via a QR code you will find in the back cover of the book or via the link at the top of this description. At the end of the book you will find the transcripts of the audios and a glossary of the words used in the book in Chinese, pinyin and its syntactic purpose in the other column.
