Nota de la editorial en inglés:
Phonetics is a basic phonetic textbook intended for students who learn Chinese as the second language. As one of the series of textbooks under the title of Chinese for Managers, this book can be used either together with Everyday Chinese, another book of this set of textbooks, or separately for beginners to learn the phonetics of putonghua. It can also serve as a reference book for students with some basic Chinese knowledge to correct their pronunciation and improve their reading skills.
The whole book is divided into three units: Unit One concentrates on the training of the basic Chinese phonetic elements: the initials, finals and tones; Unit Two focuses on the tone liaison, neutral tone and retroflex ending -r; Unit Three is devoted to the learning and training of basic reading skills.
With the purpose of helping students to know how to learn Chinese, this book puts emphasis on phonetic practice. The explanations for the phonetic knowledge are brief and to the point and the exercises are diversified in forms and interesting with key phonetic points highlighted. In addition, the book combines basic phonetic training with reading training and pays special attention to the style and details in the course of compilation, so that it is easy for students to teach themselves using this book. For their convenience, there are English translations or notes in Unit One and Unit Two and Pinyin is added to the exercises of Unit Three. At the same time, this book provides in-class phonetic tests and reviews.
This book has been used in practical teaching many times. The compiler has made many revisions and improvements according to the demands of students and the suggestions of teachers. But still there is something left to be desired. We sincerely hope that our readers and users will kindly share any comments and suggestions, so that we may further improve this book in future revisions.
